Coaching For Success
By: Wendy Nickerson, Psy.D
With more and more technology being developed and put on the market, people
are increasingly looking for more purpose and success in their lives. With the
push of a button we have immediate contact with, and exposure to, people all
over the world. The standards of what life "should be" are rising. People are
demanding to live meaningful and successful lives.
Mark Victor Hansen said that his success began with his bankruptcy! It was
the best worst thing that ever happened to him. He considered it a break for
freedom. So often we measure our success in terms of money and material
gains. I would like to propose that we are successful to the degree that we live
out our life's purpose. The degree to which we have developed personal mastery
and feel content with where we are in the present moment. This involves being
satisfied with the work that you do, also. Whether it is employment type of
work in the conventional sense or whether it is your life's work. Ideally the
two will be one of the same, or at the very least, overlap.
Most people want a sense of meaningfulness and purpose out of their work.
They want to know that they contribute and make a difference. Knowing who
you are and what you want out of your life is the key to gaining a sense of
purpose and mastery. Some people question their purpose and pursue career
counseling. Career counseling is actually beneficial because it forces you to
reflect upon what you really want to do for a living. It is a tool to getting
one step closer to being in alignment with your higher purpose.
So, how do you actually clarify your purpose? More and more people are
turning to coaches to help them accomplish this. Having a coach helps you focus
your attention and be completely honest with yourself. You get back on track
much faster. When you are on track, you can accomplish more in less time, and
you learn to work smarter. Your coach will help you pinpoint the
distractions and energy wasters that are holding you back. You will be able
to plot out your course in life. Set goals. Visualize success. And take action.
Your coach will guide you to creating different responses and choices. As long
as you continue to do what you are doing, you will get the same results. A coach
will give you the support you need to get out of your comfort zone. This is
not to mention that you will be able to live life with more integrity because
you will be doing what is REALLY important to you. You will develop strategies
for getting more of what you want in life, with less time and effort. Your
stress level will decrease within days. Needless to say you will gain confidence
in the process and expect respect from those around you. You can only imagine
what this will do for your intimate relationships!
Throughout this process, you will set higher goals for yourself and live a
much larger and more evolved life. Fear will no longer be your most dominant
emotion. You will expect more, therefore you will get more of whatever it is
that is important to you for success. The daily grind is no longer an option.
The turning around process of life has begun and you will realize that you
deserved this fulfilling life long ago. Passion for success will reemerge and
you will be able to live your life in harmony. Feeling grateful for each day. In
other words, you will be successful!
